This post was originally published on Keith Petri’s Blog. Keith Petri, the founder of eBranding Me, is a recent graduate of Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY. His studies in business, economics and studio art along with strong passions for marketing, technology and entrepreneurship led him to his current passion for social media and strong understanding of the new rules of networking. Through his prior entrepreneurial pursuits, recent blogging and extensive networking, Keith has seen the need for educating his peers on creating a positive online presence. eBranding Me is the culmination of his efforts.

Pause Before You Post” – It is one of eBranding Me’s founding principals and the first step in protecting an individual’s personal reputation online. In its simplest form, Pause Before You Post helps Generation Y students realize the implications of pressing publish too soon. “If you have to think about whether or not an update is appropriate or an image suitable for an online social network, then it is most likely not.”

While it took me nearly 5 years of participating in online communities to realize the importance of maintaining a professional image, it has taken Paul Kim and Billy Rose, two Northern Highlands Regional Highschool students, far less. Kim and Rose are seniors preparing to apply for college and begin the transition into higher education. Promote Your Blog | Make it “Sticky”

Posted November 12th, 2010 in Blogging, Events, Job Searching by admin

eBranding Me and The Opportunities Project have joined forces to bring New York City job seekers advice on how to best utilize online social media tools to achieve career success. The seminar series, titled “The Art of Pull”, began this past Tuesday with a workshop on how to “Achieve Career Success with Blogging”.

During the inaugural presentation in The Art of Pull series, I discussed the importance of making a blog “sticky”. Does Your Blog Make You Likeable?

As a career coach for college students and recent college graduates, I often talk about blogging with my clients. Blogging is a powerful tool in personal and career development. Writing in itself is something healthy that everyone should do, but regular blogging can keep you focused and get you exposure from the people that matter, including recruiters and hiring managers.

My conversations with clients are sometimes about their current blog. Everyone talks about the importance of authenticity in blogging, but my work with clients almost always revolves around two other issues:

  • Is what you are writing clear (i.e., “Is there anything you’ve written that an HR person could misinterpret?”), and
  • Are you “likeable”?

Both of these, in my opinion, are the most important things to do when posting your work on the Internet for all to see. Take the example of the Maura Kelly/Marie Claire debacle. Continue Reading »

The Art of Pull: Achieving Career Success With Blogging

Posted October 21st, 2010 in Blogging, Employment, Events, Job Searching, Social Alerts by admin

eBranding Me and The Opportunities Project launch a new Workshop Series on using “The Art of Pull” to help soon-to-be graduates and young professionals successfully network with recruiters and employers to secure gainful employment.

The Opportunities Project and eBranding Me are joining forces to teach New York City job seekers how to use all the new tools available to them to achieve career success. Each seminar will focus on one particular tool that attendees can use to transform themselves into candidates sought after by multiple employers for their added value. The seminar series is called The Art of Pull because it focuses on a job search that attracts recruiters and employers to empowered candidates instead of the traditional method of simply applying to vacancy postings.

The Art of Pull seminar series will begin on November 9th, at 7:00PM at the SLC Conference Center in Midtown Manhattan. The first seminar, Achieve Career Success with Blogging, will focus on how to best present oneself on a personal blog. Continue Reading »
